How do I choose?

We are having the Gnome evaluated for ADHD. My pediatrician has recommended two different practice groups. Both are groups that do not rush to drug the kid, instead working with other therapies (if, in fact, the diagnosis is made) and only medicating as a last resort.

I have googled the doctors in both practices and have come up with very little. How do I make an informed choice?

Ooooh. I always go with my ped's recommendation, but she never gives me multiple choice! That's tricky! Do you know any parents that have dealt with the doctors in question? That would be my next criterion. Outside of that, check who they are affiliated with. Are either connected to the local children's hospital? Usually those doctors are pretty reliable. Can you schedule an interview with them in advance? Without Stevie? Just to see how you feel about them?

Good luck!

Go see both. Pick the one you like best! We went through several professionals before we found a good match.

Go see both; then pick the one you feel most comfortable with. We went through several professionals before we found a good fit for us and our son. Hang in there!!!

Are there any online parenting groups or listservs in your area? When I need info on a doctor, dentist, daycare, etc., I send a note out to the list asking for recommendations (or seeking info on several names). Hearing from other parents is a great way to make a good choice. Even if the doctor is great, what if the front desk staff sucks? Worth talking to those who have dealt with them.
