I haven't blogged in weeks. I can't check the news. Or the weather. Or my e-mail.
We have no Internet service at the new house.
Blogging from work is a delicate venture. It must be done while I am on a clearly defined brake, or before work hours begin. The problem with that is that I am an attorney, and we are expected to work 24/7.
Here is a quick update on our lives.
September 28 -- We are homeowners as of 1:45 PM. Don and I were giddy and made plans to rush to the house and do what it is you do when you buy your first house. Except on the way home we got a call from his mother and my parents. All of them would be at the house before we were. We decided we would just unpack instead. We moved our mattress up to our room and slept in our house for the first time. The boys were disappointed to learn that they would stay at grandma and grandpa's house because we weren't moving their stuff until the next day.
September 29 -- My friends can unload a truck faster than yours. I promise you. 15 minutes to unload a very full and heavy load of the furniture that we had picked up at auction and about a million boxes. Then we went to the storage unit and loaded it up again. This time it only took them 12 minutes to unload. These people are fast! Also, no scratches on my new dining room set or credenza for the office. Life is good. . . until we discover that the couch doesn't fit through the living room door. Don and I are so sore by the end of the day that we try out our new jacuzzi tub (I love the bad housing market. No way would we have a house with that tub unless the market was this bad). The kids are furious when we accept Don's mother's offer to have them spend the night so we can get some unpacking done the next day.
September 30 -- There is a snake in my kitchen. My new kitchen. I almost have a heart attack. Don takes care of it, and a couple of days later I learn that it is called a ring snake, and it is harmless. (Somehow this reminds me that the entry for Earth in The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is "mostly harmless" and it doesn't make me feel any better about the snake.) The kids are excited to sleep in the house for the first time. The complain that the bedroom is cold.
October 1-5 -- I take the week off work and try to get the house settled. Unfortunately, Strep Throat hits us on Wednesday. I feel like someone is ripping my throat out from the inside. Most of the unpacking is done on October 6 and 7 when I am actually feeling better.
October 8 -- I turn 31 years old. There is not much to say. It was a horrible birthday and we are having a do-over sometime in the future.
The rest of last week was spent trying to catch up with the work that I missed by taking the previous week off.
There was so much great blogging fodder that I have now forgotten because I don't have Internet service, so I can't blog immediately. Maybe I should learn how to blog from my Blackberry? At least it would be good for something.
I need Internet service. I miss you guys!
